Chapter Two

Recently, I joined the Literature Club. I wanted to join as a shadow member, actually, but my curiosity drove me crazy. I wanted to know why the Literature Club had so little people joining and what it looked like, so the following day after school I immediately went to the Club Room. When I opened the door I was shocked. What in the world? Instead of looking like an ordinary club room, it looked more like a miniature library! Books piled up on the shelves, books spilling out from cupboards, books on tables, GOSH!

I walked over to the girl from before and asked, “Eh! So, what’s your name?”

“Naomi,” she replied.

I see. I only see you, so where’re the rest of the club members?

And, as if she heard my thoughts, she replied.

“Not here yet.”

Such a quiet atmosphere, I thought. I decided to read some books to kill my time.

I opened a book called ‘World History Revised Edition, Copyright 1999’. How old are all these books anyway?! Since I was not interested in history much, I decided to pick another book. Hmm, its about Leonhard Euler, a famous Mathematician. Judging from the book, I daresay Leonhard Euler was one of the best mathematicians on Earth! Just then, the door opened and a girl came in.

“Ah? New member? What’s your name? I’m Himitsu, pleasure to meet you!” Said the girl, graciously putting out her hand to shake mine.

“Ah. I’m Miku, a pleasure to meet you as well,” I replied and shook her hand.

Following that, she sat down on the floor and picked up a book to read. Feeling that the Literature Club wasn’t so bad after all, I relaxed a little and continued reading.

The door opened yet again.

“Ah- Who’s this? Miku~~~ You joined the Literature club!~”

Ah? That annoying voice… Don’t tell me-!!

“KAITO-THE-BRAT! You joined the literature club too?” I screamed.

“Oi,oi! Not so noisy! Can’t I join a club? Anyway… Naomi, here, your book,” Kaito said, and tossed the book over to Naomi. Naomi caught it in her hand easily.

“I’m Kaeda, Kaito’s caretaker. It is my greatest honor in meeting you, Miku. I’ve heard a lot about you,” Said the boy, giving me an impeccably perfect 45 degree bow.

I was shocked. To think that the great Kaito had to have a caretaker! A joke, that has to be! Well, I’m going to laugh now, ha, ha!

Suddenly, Himitsu stood up.

“Guys, I think, to bond more with each other, we should go HIKING! I know a great place to go hiking, lets go, okay? WE WILL, RIGHT?!” Himitsu demanded.

“I will go if Kaito goes,” Kaeda replied.

“I’ll go,” Naomi said softly.

“Ahh, umm, I guess I could go…?” I mumbled, speechless.

“Of course I will go!” Kaito puffed out his chest and declared. “I am, of course, the best there is!”

What a jerk.

“Anyway, we’ll meet at the train station at 8.30AM on Saturday, don’t be late!” Himitsu said. “Don’t be late, you guys! I’ll bring some bentous along too! Club dismissed!”

Naomi seems to be the Club president, so why is Himitsu doing all the jobs? Oh well, not like its my problem…
